It isn't medically necessary.
No major medical association in the world — not the American Academy of Pediatrics, not the Canadian Paediatric Society, not the Royal Dutch Medical Association — recommends routine circumcision for all newborn boys. It's optional surgery, not standard care.

The foreskin isn't spare skin.
It's a moving, nerve-dense structure that protects the glans, keeps it from keratinizing, and plays a role in adult sexual sensation. Circumcision doesn't trim it — it removes it, permanently.

Waiting costs nothing. Cutting can't be undone.
A man who wants to be circumcised can choose it as an adult, with anesthesia, consent, and a surgeon of his choosing. A boy circumcised as an infant who grows up to wish he weren't has no equivalent option. One error is reversible. The other isn't.

Most of the world doesn't do this.
Outside a handful of countries where it's tied to religion or inherited custom, non-religious infant circumcision is rare. In Denmark, the rate is about 0.4%. Given the choice, at an age they can actually make it, people overwhelmingly don't choose this for themselves.

"He won't remember" isn't the point.
Newborns feel it — the clinical trial evidence for that is strong enough that an unanesthetized comparison arm was stopped early on ethical grounds. And whether he'll remember the procedure was never the reason he should get a say in it.
Care for an intact boy is simple: don't retract it, don't force it, wash the outside like any other body part. It separates on its own, on its own schedule — usually years later. That's the entire routine.
The decision can wait. He can't get this back. The only real choice here is whether to leave a healthy body alone, or make an irreversible one for someone who isn't old enough to weigh in.
